In this piece we used the symbolism of a samurai facing an erupting volcano, looking out at the adversity and trials he sees as his duty and responsibility to meet. We wanted to show what Seneca meant, that a person who is handed everything and never has to fight for it never gets to prove to himself that he was worth it or could have gotten there on his own.
We chose a volcano rather than a storm or a battlefield because it does more than one thing. It brings chaos and trials, and it also brings new life. The ground around a volcano is the most fertile ground there is. That's the whole point of the quote. What breaks you open is also what lets you grow.
We placed the quote in the bottom left, captioning the scene instead of competing with it.
